Invoking the festive season
Ashok Nagarajan

The Gloria Deo, considered the largest christmas concert in Asia, was held in Bangalore for the first time recently at the Palace Grounds by the Global Council of Indian Christians (GCIC). The concert was a complete entertainer communicating the message of love and compassion through music.

To begin with, there were scintillating performances by the students of Ryan International School and Bethany High School who presented popular christmas carols along with a dance performance. Adding to the festive spirit was a unique performance by the bollywood sensation — Anil and Reena Kant. The two managed to create the perfect atmosphere with Punjabi bangra numbers inculcating the spirit of Christmas into it. This was followed by an amazing performance by a group of Brazilian dancers.

The highlight of the event, though, was the presence of World Twenty20 Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa who, apart from cricket, spoke about his belief in Jesus and how it helped him perform well at the international level inspite of the fact that he was a struggling cricketer.

Benny Prasad, the only Indian to have performed at the Olympic games, left the audience spellbound with his musical presentation. Known for his unique guitar called the Bentar, Benny has also performed across the globe and holds the Guiness World Record for covering the maximum number of countries in a calender year.

The concert also featured artists of International repute like Ken Henson, Cindy Wilcox and Shofar from the US and Kevin Wilson from the UK, apart from a group of hip-hop dancers from Africa.
