Love Muslims and end cruelty, Imam tells Bush

A prominent Muslim cleric on Friday welcomed the greetings extended by US President George W Bush on the occasion of Eid-ul-Zuha but appealed to him to “love the Muslim community and stop cruelties” in Afghanistan, Iraq, Palestine and in its prisons, reports PTI from New Delhi.

“I welcome the greetings extended by Bush to Muslims all over the world on this Eid-ul-Zuha,” said Maulana Mufti Mohd Mukkaram, Shahi Imam of Old Delhi's Fatehpuri Masjid. The cleric's comments came during special prayers at the Masjid on the occasion of Eid.

Rajiv Gandhi didn’t keep promise, says Bhutto

Pakistani leader Benazir Bhutto has accused former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi of not keeping his “promise” in 1988 to withdraw Indian troops from Siachen, reports PTI from New Delhi.

Reacting strongly to National Security Adviser M K Narayanan’s comments that she had not kept “a number of promises” made to the late prime minister during their meeting in Pakistan that year, Bhutto said that she had been “ very surprised and extremely hurt” by them.

Suspected food poisoning kills two persons

In a case of suspected food poisoning, two persons and eight dogs, including the man who runs a shelter for stray dogs, were found dead on Friday, PTI reports from New Delhi. Vishwant Kumar (70), who runs the facility and Shivrath (30) had non-vegetarian dinner and fed 80 dogs the same food on Thursday night, police said.

The body of the dead were sent for post-mortem. A bottle of insecticide was recovered from the shelter, police added.
