Rail Wheel Factory (RWF) ended their superb run in the ‘A’ Division football league in befitting fashion with a 3-0 win over Dharmaraja Union at the Bangalore Football Stadium on Saturday.
RWF finished atop the 13-team league table with 36 points and they along with Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, who tallied 29 points to finsih second, secured promotion to the Super Division league next season. For the record, RWF won all their 12 matches while plundering a season-high 55 goals and their dominance was indisputable as they notched up at least a two-goal margin victories against all their opponents.
On Friday, Satish Kumar struck a brace (2nd, 5th), while Naveen Babu (75th) rounded off the scoring for the champions. In fact, Satish amassed 17 goals in the season to emerge the top-scorer in the league.
With gaining a place in the top-flight league in the State, Balwant Singh, Joint Secretary, RWF Sports Association, said that the team is looking forward for fresh recruitment with the focus on youngsters.
An elated coach Sreedhar KA said the team’s goal next season will be to achieve a creditable position in the Super Division.
Earlier in the Super Division, the truncated match between Postal and LRDE played on October 29 was completed with a 20-minute session as decided by the organisers. Postal emerged victorious with the earlier score-line of 2-0 remaining intact with goals from Gubindran and Arun Pondey.
