Mayas elephant trundles into City
DH News Service,Bangalore:
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati will be virtually kickstarting Bahujan Samaj Partys poll campaign in the State by addressing a public rally in the City on Sunday afternoon.

After securing a clear-cut majority in Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, the BSP is keen on spreading its wings to the different parts of the country and  like the BJP, it is considering Karnataka as a gateway to South India.  The BSP will get a shot in the arm as former minister from Janata parivar PGR Sindhia , who met the leader, is all set to join the party with a large number of  his supporters in the presence of Behenji.
“We are expecting lakhs of our supporters during Behenji’s public meeting at the Palace Grounds. We are spending around Rs 50 lakh on this show, which we had collected from our supporters through coupons,” said  state BSP chief B Gopal.
Blue wave
According to him, the BSP has collected Rs 55 lakh through coupons. The entire city appeared under the BSP seige from Saturday with festoons, buntings and hoardings of BSP, Mayawati, Dr Ambedkar and Kanshiram at every nook and corner. The Green City was dotted  with blue flags of the Party.
The engineer of the new caste chemistry of BSP in Uttar Pradesh, Satish Chandra Mishra and national secretary of BSP and also Rajya Sabha member Veer Singh would also address the gathering, said party sources.
In the wake of the recent revelations that there is a threat to her life from some Islamic terror outfits, elaborate security arrangements have been made at the Palace Grounds. More than 2500 policemen will stand guard in and around the Palace ground.  KSRP 13 platoon, Home guards 150, Inspectors 50, ACP 15, SI 77 and 2000 constables will be on duty, said a senior police officer.
The BSP had affected the prospects of Congress candidates in over 20 Assembly constituties in the 2004 assembly elections.  Mayawati met  P S Prakash, Zulfikar Azmi, V Krishnappa, V Srinivas, B Dharamappa, Babu Rao Chawan and Trishul Pani Patel, son of former Chief Minister, late J H Patel.
There is going to be a Brahmins’ touch to the BSP rally on Sunday. Brahmana Samudaya (an organisation of Brahmins) is busy in making arrangments to serve food for thousands of BSP workers and supporters.
