Checking in BMTC
The checking staff of BMTC have intensified checking of buses in and around the City to detect ticketless travelling by passengers. Nearly 25,977 trips were inspected and 9,161 ticketless passengers caught.
The staff have penalised and collected Rs 7,63,135 as penalty.
Ticketless passengers travelling in BMTC buses are required to pay the penalty 10 times the actual journey fare or a maximum of Rs 500 whichever is less.
Free Kannada classes
The Department of Kannada and Culture is organising free Kannada classes for the benefit of officials who do not know Kannada and who are working in corporations, boards, state and central government and public sector undertakings and for other interested persons.
The classes will commence from January 4, 2008, and the duration of the training will be for three months. Classes will be conducted three days a week, from 6 pm to 8 pm at Kannada Bhavan, JC Road, Bangalore - 560 002.

Birth anniversary
The 155th birth anniversary of Sri Sarada Devi will be celebrated at Ramakrishna Math, Bull Temple Road on December 30.
A book exhibition-cum-sales of Ramakrishna-Vivekananda Vedanta literature will be held from December 26 to January 15, 2008 at ashram premises.
