The expected has finally happened. Maharashtra Revenue Minister Narayan Rane, who crossed Shiv Sena to joined the Congress almost three years back when he was promised chief ministership, has openly revolted against Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh and is likely to resign from the state cabinet on Monday.
Rane met Congress president Sonia Gandhi in Delhi over the weekend, a day after he made a public statement in Delhi that the Congress-NCP government in the state was “working for one man, not for the people”, referring to Deshmukh. The former Shiv Sena leader minced no words in expressing his total disgruntlement with the chief minister. His rebellious posture may lead to change in the state leadership, especially in the backdrop of the party's crushing defeat in Gujarat polls, despite Deshmukh campaigning there
When asked what steps were being taken to change the situation, Rane said “efforts are on.”
Deshmukh unruffled
Notwithstanding Rane's rebellious stance, Deshmukh is giving no signs of panic and remains unruffled.
He told mediapersons that Rane’s expressions of dissent were part of the party’s internal democracy.
