Narendra Modi creates history
Narendra Modi, who will be sworn in as Gujarat Chief Minister for the third time, has created a new record in the BJP.
By leading Gujarat for a second successive term after a spectacular win in the Assembly polls, the 57-year old leader has achieved a feat unparalleled in the saffron brotherhood, reports PTI from New Delhi.
No other BJP chief minister had so far been able to beat the anti-incumbency factor for the second time in a row, a lacunae that senior party leaders like L K Advani had been looking to address for years.Modi, who has earned the distinction of being the longest serving chief minister of the prosperous western state, faced the first polls in 2002 just one year after taking over from Keshubhai Patel.
‘Modi is BJP’s Dhoni’
BJP spokesman Ravi Shankak Prasad on Sunday compared Modi with Dhoni, saying, “Team BJP fought the elections with vigour and Narendra Modi has emerged as the Man of the Match. He has become the Dhoni of the party." reports DHNS from New Delhi. Rahul was described by the Congress as their ‘Dhoni’ when he was appointed AICC General Secretary in September.
His appointment coincided with the World Cup victory and Congress lost no time in seeking to cash in on it.
Threat to Modi’s life
The Centre has alerted the Gujarat government of a threat to the life of Chief Minister Narendra Modi and asked the state authorities to enhance his security, reports UNI from Gandhinagar.
A state government official confirmed that an advisory has been received from the Centre about the possibility of a fidayeen attack on Modi. Modi, who already enjoys Z-plus security, is regarded as among the most threatened political leaders in the country.
While the Centre provides him cover through the National Security Guard, the Gujarat government has its own state commando force, Chetaks, specially trained for this purpose.
