Where service is the motto...
Gubbi: With a vedic gurukula, shrines and temples, Chidambara Ashrama is a well known spiritual centre in Tumkur district. Managed by the Chidambara Ashrama Trust, the ashrama houses middle and high schools, besides a vocational training centre where youngsters learn various job skills comprising weaving, book printing and farming techniques. The ashrama has been publishing its quarterly Kannada magazine "Sevasadana" since 1940.
Located near the Gubbi Railway Station, Chidambara Ashrama has an age-old Dattanjaneya temple, panchavati (hermitage), vedavidya mandira, goshala and a pravachana mandira. The ashrama also owns acres of agricultural land which are being used for the cultivation of paddy and vegetables to meet the daily kitchen requirements of its gurukula-cum-free-boarding schools.
Chidambara Swamiji founded this ashrama in 1939. The seer is said to have started and edited Sevasadana for many years, despite involving himself personally in various service activities of the ashrama. He attained samadhi on August 1, 1966.
