Lokayukta move on ore exports
Bangalore, dhns:
Lokayukta Justice Santosh Hegde will soon write to the Centre and State governments to ban export of iron ore from all over the country. His missive will be backed by statistics he has collected on the disparity between income the governments and individual lease-holders get from iron ore mining and export.
“In my assessment, the difference between the two incomes is more than 100 per cent. We have collected statistics of the income State and Central governments get and what private lease-holders get from iron ore mining. The extent of illegal mining is so huge that the difference is more than 100 per cent,” said Justice Hegde.
“Why must the governments lose out? At the rate illegal mining of iron ore is going on, we will be left with hardly any minerals in the next 30 years,” he added.
Last week, he had a second round of meeting with the Chitradurga DC and forest and mining officials regarding illegal iron ore mining in Tumkur and Chitradurga.
