A newly-married woman was hacked to death and her body set ablaze by her husband and in-laws in an attempt to destroy evidence at Madhav Nagar, in Tavarekere police station limits, on Tuesday.
According to the police, Meenakshi (19) and Ramesh married last year. Unable to tolerate harassment by Ramesh and in-laws, Meenakshi went to her uncle's house at Kamakshipalya. After three months, Ramesh, who promised to take good care of her, brought her home. As soon as she returned, Ramesh, his brother along with their parents, hacked her to death and burnt the body. They told everyone she had committed suicide. Suspecting Ramesh's version, Meenakshi’s uncle informed the police. During interrogation, he confessed to the crime.
