T B Jayachandra has come out in support of activist Medha Patkar’s statements on Krishna river valley.
He was speaking at a press conference at the city on Tuesday. He opined that if a few measures had been employed then the level of loss could have been reduced. As reported earlier Medha Patkar had charged that the Karnataka and Maharashtra Government were responsible for the loss of life and property that resulted because of floods in the Krishna river valley in 2005, at Kolhapur.
“ The Almatti dam does not have the capacity to sustain water released by the Koyna and there is no need to push it into service either. Instead if the A and B schemes of the Upper Bhadra project are started immediately, then we can utilise waters ourselves,” he added.
He also brushed aside comments made by J C Mudduswamy about the Governor’s style of function and calling it a proxy congress administration. “To the best of my knowledge the Governor is only working for the betterment of the state and no Congress leader has disturbed His Excellency without a genuine reason” he added.
