Eleven child labourers working in brick kilns in the Jhajjar district of Haryana were rescued from the clutches of their employers. The children, aged between 10-15 years, were rescued on Monday from four brick kilns in Jahangirpur and Dariyapur localities of Jhajjar, Haryana government officials said.
All of them were trafficked from Muzaffarpur district in Bihar. The operation came after Bachpan Bachao Andolan, an NGO, approached the Jhajjar district authorities about the practice of using child labourers in brick kilns there.
“The Deputy Commissioner and some other government officials, NGO activists and parents of these kids were a part of the team that conducted the operation on Monday,” officials said. The employers would be booked under the Bonded Labour Act. “The children were brought to Haryana on the pretext of working for a salary of Rs 2000 per month in tiles factories,” said R S Chaurasia of the Aandolan.
