Maharashtra Governor S M Krishna, who has been keen on entering the State politics for a long time, is likely to give up his gubernatorial post next week.
According to sources, the Congress high command is toying with the idea of appointing him the chairman of State campaign committee besides making him AICC general secretary.
Krishna is said to have met the key leaders in Delhi and expressed his desire to join the State politics.
Meanwhile, former Deputy Chief Minister M P Prakash is also said to be seriously considering the idea of joining Congress in view of the opinion expressed by Bellary mining tycoon - G Janardhan Reddy - that the BJP should consult local leaders before welcoming Prakash into the BJP fold.
Prakash is scheduled to hold a meeting with his supporters here on December 27 to decide his future political moves. Prakash, who is identified with secular groups, is not ready to sacrifice his image by joining hands with the BJP.
Kanakapura MP Tejaswini Gowda, who met Prakash on Tuesday to invite him to act in her film, is said to have asked him to join Congress to strengthen secular forces.
Meanwhile, legislators identified with the Siddaramaiah group, are likely to formally join the Congress next week.
