Around 70 per cent of total solar panels installed in the country is in Karnataka and the remaining are spread across the country, said Renewable Energy Development Ltd Chairman B Shivalingaiah. He was speaking at the inauguration of Orb Energy’s new branch on RV Road.
One of the reasons why more people in the State are installing solar water heaters is due to the climatic condition. “In Karnataka, people use more hot water compared with other states. Thus, the number of solar water heater manufacturers is more in and around Bangalore,” he said.
By 2012, the department aims to provide electricity to every household. About 50 per cent of households in the country do not have electricity and hence renewable energy can be used to generate electricity, he added.
