A large Aneurysm (swelling of an artery) of the right leg artery was closed using a modern device by a technique which avoided operation in a patient at Manipal Heart Centre at KMC Hospital, Ambedkar Circle, Mangalore. This is the first such procedure performed in Mangalore, by a team of doctors led by KMC Hospital Cardiologist Dr Yusuf Kumble. Mr Mohammud (58) who was suffering from severe right leg pain was bedridden since three weeks.
He was brought to KMC Hospital Ambedkar circle where it was found that he had large aneurysm of right thigh blood vessel, which was leaking and causing swelling and pain.
“Though surgery was the primary option, because of high risk to deal with such a large aneurysm, Doctors decided to close it by an Interventional Technique.
Because it was a new technique and access was from the opposite leg, it was quiet challenging.
Aneurysm was closed using a “Stent Graft” and the patient improved within 24 hours,” said Dr Yusuf Kumble.
