Though the taluk has produced 100 tonnes of vanilla, the unfavourable market rate has worried the growers. Middlemen has been purchasing vanilla beans between Rs 15 and Rs 45. Few years ago vanilla was considered as ‘golden crop’ fetching a sum of Rs 3,000 per kg. Now there has been drastic reduction in the price of vanilla beans. Some centres have been trying to procure vanilla beans to get good price in the market.
Though there has been rise in the price of vanilla in the international market, growers are not fetching good return.
