A disciplinarian
Field Marshal Cariappa has been known for his discipline and passion for country. This book is an effort to explore the other side of him, side of a loving parent. Moreover, this book is an attempt to see him as an individual without his uniform. And who could do this job better than his son Air Marshal K C Cariappa (retd).
The author admits that writing this book on his father, has brought him closer to his memories of him. In the project, he was required to remember various facets of his father and write about them.
"It was a wonderful experience," says K C Cariappa.
The idea of writing a book on his father was not his. "I dare not think on such lines because I always thought that I would not be able to do justice to it. There was too much to tell...," he says.
He was approached with the idea and convinced by family members. He did and the result is infront for all to see. The first edition of the book is already sold out and the second edition is in printing.
Good response
Cariappa is very happy with the response. He’s glad a lot of people want to read his interpretation of his father. Although he doesn't have an opinion on the book, he says "you tell me," with a naughty smile but the fact that the first edition is sold out tells a lot.
The author feels he has done his best. He is happy with his effort and response of people after reading the book reassures him on that.
But sometimes, he remembers various incidents that he wishes he would have mentioned in the book. "I sometimes feel. I should have added this..or that," he adds. But he feels it is not easy to summarise his father's life in few pages. Some of the things are bound to be left out.
Next book
How about a sequel with the left-outs? He says, “the things that I want to add are not enough for a complete book. So a sequel is unlikely."
And after this success, writing another book is a big "no-no" for him. He feels he is not a writer and he will not take a plunge there.
"I should have a subject that touches me enough to write about it. And as of now I can't think of any," he says.
The author was busy signing books for many who would love to read it. He was so calm that it looked like he had been writing forever.
But his affirmative 'no' on not writing another book, makes one hope that such masterpieces are penned again.
