Fourth-seeded S Karan scored a come-from-behind win over Vikas Hansoge to make the semifinals in the boys' under-16 section of the Talent Series tennis tournament at the Kim's Tennis Academy here on Wednesday.
After losing the opening set, Karan dug deep into his reserves to score a hard-fought 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 victory over the seventh-seeded Hansoge.
After a tentative start, Karan upped his game a few notches to have Hansoge running for cover. Soon, Karan took the second set and pushed the issue to the decider. Both had their chances, but Karan played the big points well to come out a winner.
Meanwhile, top-seeded Rashien Samuel hardly broke sweat during his 6-4, 6-4 win over Rohan Gaonkar.
In the under-18 section, Kamal breezed into the semifinals with a workmanlike 6-1, 6-4 win over Gaonkar. Also going through the last-four stage were Sujeeth, Sujith Mathew and Vasanath Venkatesh.
In the girls' under-18 section, Tamil Nadu's Nitha Raj outplayed state-mate Niveditha Srinivas to join Yamini Reddy, Rachana R Gowda and Shalaka in the semifinals.
