Congress seems to have learnt lesson after it lost to BJP due its internal differences in the last election. Hence, the leaders have taken care to nip in the bud any such internal conflicts and ensure that no unhappy soul would rebel against the party.
After preparing the list of aspirants, these leaders plan to discuss with them about allotting tickets. Cong activists from Betamangala constituency have already begun lobbying for the tickets and have flown to Delhi to bring pressure from the top brass and influence the local leaders.
Zilla Panchayat member Ramachandrappa, who had bitter experience after rebelling, seems to have left no stone unturned to get the ticket this time. M Narayanaswamy, who migrated from Janata Pariwar to Congress and also tasted power for two consecutive terms as legislator, is running behind Union Minister K H Muniyappa to get the ticket. Voters refused to recognise his ‘car’ in the last election.
Notwithstanding BJP being in the vogue, the candidate who aspires to contest the election must have fat pocket to shell out Rs five to seven crore. Probably, the emphasis on this ‘deposit’ will also help the Congress to sift the ‘poor’ candidates minimising the number of rebels.
Behind the screen, former TMC president K M Narayanaswamy, former legislator C Venkateshappa and others have tried to influence the party leaders with their impressive bank accounts.
After C Venkateshappa quit Janata Dal, there seems to be no takers for tickets in the party. However, the leaders are also unwilling to give tickets to candidates hitherto unknown in their candidates.
The loss in Congress and BJP will be gain for JD(S) which may pick up the best of the rebels from these two parties. If the activists oppose, one of them may also get chance to contest, by default.
