Deccan Herald » Metro Life - Fri » Detailed Story
Tale of a title

S Narayan’s Cheluvina Chittara managed to rake in all the moolah, with generous helpings of controversies right before its release. One such controversy involved casting a minor in the lead role, a clear case of exploitation. But the girl who played the role, Amulya made an impressive debut considering the film was the remake of Kadhal. Now, the heroine of the original, Sandhya is herself starring opposite Power Star Puneet in Mayura ...Naniruvude Nimagagi. Here, she plays a social worker to Puneet’s lawyer. Shraddha Arya, the spunky daughter of Amitabh Bachchan in Nishabd, plays Puneet’s classmate and colleague.

The film is directed by Telugu director Shobhan who has 11 films to his credit, including Varsham. And then there is a tale behind the title. Shobhan, who was watching television came across Annavru’s popular song Naniruvude Nimagagi from Mayura. Something clicked in Shobhan’s mind and immediately he pursuaded Rajkumar’s family to select this title. Besides, the film tells the tale of a lawyer embracing social responsibility completely. And Puneet has shown yet again the care with which he chooses his roles, a trait that was common with his father. R P Patnaik will score the music while Satya Hegde will handle the camera.
10th class, pass?

Everybody is aware of the ordeal Vijayalakshmi Singh, director of Ee Bandhana underwent. The director had to repeatedly assert that the film was not a remake and eventually had to reshoot some portions. The film, however turned out to be well made and pleasant.

Now, another remake in the guise of ‘straight subject’ is making its way here. 10th class, directed by Dil Sathya is on the floors. Two films with similar titles have already been made in other languages, the journalists pointed out. But Sathya stuck to his claim that the story was original. However, responses elicited by the scribes indicated otherwise. Another film is on its way to having trouble with the censors!

Meanwhile, Navin, a II PUC student has been selected to play the hero while Priyanka who was seen in Nali Naliyutha is the heroine.

One of the producers of the film 10th class is Prakash Kalkere, who has been associated with the industry for quite a number of years. Prakash, after several failed attempts to become a hero has now launched his two children in this film. While son Prithvi still in ninth standard will be playing the ‘villain’ in this high school love story, his daughter will be playing the heroine’s friend.

But she won’t be the next heroine anytime soon. For the father is keen on making his son the hero, while conceding that the industry is not a place to be for his daughter! Different parameters for different people, eh?
