The bus and train service between India and Pakistan was today suspended temporarily for security reasons in the wake of assassination of Benazir Bhutto and related developments in the neighbouring country.
Railways announced cancellation of Samjhauta Express, Munabao-Khokhrapar Thar Express with immediate effect.
The Railway Ministry today announced that it
had suspended the operation of Samjhauta Express and Thar Express --
the two trains connecting India and Pakistan -- on account of
security considerations following the political turmoil in Pakistan.
In a statement, the ministry said the two trains had been
suspended with immediate effect on account of ''security
considerations.''
''The 4001/4002 Delhi-Attari Link Express, 4607/4608 Samjhauta
Express, 405/406 Munabao-Khokrapar Thar Express and 4889/4890
Jodhpur-Munabao-Jodhpur Link Express have been cancelled with
immediate effect until further notice,'' the ministry said.
Pakistan Railway has been informed about the decision accordingly, a Railway Ministry spokesman said.
The government also cancelled for Delhi-Lahore bus in view of the situation in Pakistan.
The former Pakistani premier's assassination and the subsequent violence in Pakistan has heightened concerns here.
The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) met here this evening to assess the fallout of developments in Pakistan.
The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus service from Delhi to Lahore runs on Tuesdays and Fridays and from Lahore to Delhi on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) runs the bus service from Lahore to Delhi on Tuesdays and Fridays. From Delhi to Lahore, the PTDC buses ply on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Samjhauta Express runs from Attari to Lahore on every Monday and Thursday and from Lahore every Tuesday and Friday.
