“Could you please help me to find my way, I am new to the city and have been lost with no money and food for several days”. Savita looked at the man before her , did he have to stop her now, she had a very important meeting in a little while and as it was her maid had not come this morning and that had delayed her. She could not find an auto, which meant taking a bus! Some days were really crazy and now her boss was going to get irritated again, people can be so inconsiderate.
Again the man before her seemed to be pointing to some thing and saying some thing, must be begging thought Savita, you have people making up all sorts of stories now a days for some money. Savita put her hand into her bag and fished for some change to give him. That is when she realized that she needed change for the bus. "Go away I don't have any money for you, go away" she said turning away and wishing for the tenth time that the bus or auto would come. Savita vaguely noticed the man turn away and his expression made her feel rather uncomfortable for a moment. She noticed a bus pulling up and the man slipped out of her mind immediately.
“Excuse me sir, could you help me, I am looking for my relatives in the city. I seem to have lost all my money and the address." Rajan looked at the man begging in front of him with disgust. Where do these types pop up from, here I have just finished a wonderful meal and do I have to be harassed by the sight of this miserable man? Where is that driver of mine, I have called him to pick me up nearly five minutes ago, this Bangalore traffic is impossible. "Go away man don't bother me." Rajan felt very irritated at the sight of the man in front of him, you would never find people doing this in the US, they respected your privacy. Rajan had just returned from a business trip and he was very impressed by all that he had seen there. In the distance he saw his car caught in the traffic, in the relief of seeing his car approaching he completely forgot about the man standing in front of him and started to walk towards his car.
“Mam could you give me a drink of water from your pot, I have been wandering around for days in search of my relatives,” explained the man with a lantern in one hand and a shawl covering his bent shoulders. The young man looks quite harmless, thought Komala as the man stopped her on her way home from the corporation tap where she went to collect water. “Look I have had to wait for nearly one hour for one pot of water, do you know that irritating Manjula almost took my place in the que and started a fight with me because I refused to let her. Now if I give you the water I will have to go back and wait in an hour long queue. My good man you seem to be alone, just go till you reach the tap down the road and stand in the queue yourself." Komala felt a little bad for saying this but she had her children waiting at home and the days work waiting to be done so she walked on without a backward look.
“Sir, I am sorry to disturb you, I would appreciate your help. I have lost everything and have been trying to find some relatives of mine in the city could you help me?” Suresh was in a hurry but on seeing the man standing outside his door he stopped. Suresh was a carpenter and had been working the whole day to finish the new office wood work. "Which part of the city do your relatives live in?" he enquired as he gave the poor man a drink of water. " The man sat down at Suresh's door step with a sigh of relief and narrated his story.
That very day in heaven- “Father, you gave me the responsibility of going to earth and updating you on what was happening there and whether people are living in accordance to your word.
I am so happy to report to you that all is well in the world. I met people who were so worried about reaching to work on time, which means that they wanted to do their jobs well. People are very contented with their lives and appreciate the good things we have provided for them.
Some are taking their responsibilities in life very seriously and working very hard, but most of all, one of them
actually made time for me your son!"
