Rural Electrification Corporation Chairman and Managing Director Anil K Lakhina has stated that the implementation of Rajiv Gandhi Grameena Vidyuthikarana Scheme (RGGVY) in the State would not suffer for want of grants from REC.
When his attention was drawn to the unhappiness expressed by the Planning Commission about the implementation of RGGVY scheme in the State, Lakhina said on Wednesday he held a meeting with the officials of Karnataka on the issue and he had sought a detailed report on the issue.
“I believe their words that the project cost had gone up as there was a gap between the date of preparation of detailed project report in 2002-03 and the actual implementation that began in 2005-06. We will decide on the action after getting the report. But I assure you that the implementation will suffer for want of funds”, Lakhina stated.
Earlier delivering the 22nd silver jubliee commemoration lecture of the Karnataka Engineers Association, Lakhina said that the task of providing electricity to around 70,000 non-electrified villages and also to 55 per cent of people in the electrified villages all over country would be completed within three years.
“By the end of 12th plan, power supply in nearly 25 per cent of our cities will be managed by private people. Corporatisation of utilities and also professionalisation of manpower are the other major changes expected in the sector”, Lakhina explained.
Managing Director of KPTCL Bharat Lal stated that state’s power sector has to further improve its position.
