Around 125 films from 45 countries will be screened at five venues. BIFFES 2008 is organised by the Suchitra Cinema and Cultural Academy, in association with the State Government.
Speaking to reporters on Friday, eminent filmmaker and BIFFES 2008 director Girish Kasaravalli said the films will be screened at three halls in Vision Cinemas on K H Road, K H Patil Auditorium on the same road and the Suchitra Auditorium in Banashankari 2nd Stage.
Works of Japanese filmmaker Mizoguchi will be showcased. The documentary section will feature 30 documentaries.
Kannada films: An LCD exhibition of National Award-winning Kannada films will be organised. Books on the doyen of Kannada cinema, late M R Vittal, will be released.
The Indian Panorama section — Chitrabharathi — will be opened with the new Malayalam film by eminent filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan. The three Kannada films in the section are P R Ramadas Naidu’s Moggina Jade, B S Lingadevaru’s Kada Beladingalu and K Shivarudraiah’s Daatu.
Around 1,100 delegate passes for the public (Rs 500), film industry professionals (Rs 400) and students of cinema, journalism and mass communication (Rs 300) are being issued. For details, call 26711785/ 94480 89180.
Star studded start
BIFFES 2008 will be inaugurated on January 3 at Chowdiah Memorial Hall by Governor Rameshwar Thakur, in the presence of Adoor Gopalakrishnan and leading Kannada movie actors, including Shivaraj Kumar, Jayamala, Tara and Ganesh.
A 20-minute ballet on the evolution of song and dance in Indian cinema, choreographed by renowned Kathak dancer Maya Rao, will be staged.
