The evening was set for a cause, as musicians and performers cutting across genres came together at the Chowdiah Memorial Hall on Friday. The event titled Rudram was held in aid of Vishranti, a home for senior citizens, on Whitefield-Malur Road.
Guitarist, flautist and singer Vikram Hazra, accompanied by Mizo Dass on the guitar, set the tempo straightaway with a spirited rendition of Vakratunda mahakaya. The dulcet flute strains soon gave way for peppy guitar riffs that complemented Om namah shivaya, a highly charged bhajan.
Chithra Chandrashekar Dasarathy followed Hazra’s act with a Bharatanatyam performance. The final turn was by three musicians from The Netherlands: Mireille Heijltjes on the piano, Lisanne Soeterbroek on the violin and Stephanie Steiner on the viola.
Padma Srinivasan and Jayalakshmi Sreenivasan, the founder-trustees of Vishranti, had kicked off the idea by catering pizzas to City-based MNCs who had volunteered to help in the senior citizens’ project.
