Former minister T B Jayachandra led a protest in front of the Tahsildhar’s office against the threat of deletion of names from the voters’ list with.
The revenue department has served notices to a few of the permanent residents of surrounding villages that their names will be dropped from the voters’ list.
The villagers however say that the notice is being served to them despite having submitted required documents.
“Serving a notice to the permanent residents of the villages is like questioning their very existence. Besides those who travel everyday to work as daily labourers, notices have also been served to those who have never stepped out of the village by the election officials. This is a clear violation of the law” said Jayachandra.
He also added that a few names have been left out with political designs and this defeats the purpose of democracy it self.
He asked the DC to step in and help the villagers to escape the costs of submitting a few necessary documents.
He also warned that if the names were left out of the voters’ list is to be released on January 7, they would intensify their agitation.
Youth Congress president D C Ashok, Mahesh, Lokesh, Padderaju, Lingaraju and others participated in the agitation.
