Fashion is inexorably linked with the seasons. Summer and Spring, winter and fall matter more to fashion designers than the weatherman! Keeping this in mind, we asked a few fashion designers if they have to represent a month or a particular time of the year in a dress/colour/outfit, which would they choose, how would they represent it and why. Here's what some of them had to say:

SHARBARI DATTA
Sharbari Datta, the Kolkata-based designer who recently designed for Abhishek Bachchan’s wedding trousseau, says she would go for February and use the colour bright yellow because of the season of spring, which also represents Basant Utsav in India. “Indian colour vermillion is auspicious. Bright yellow represents joy and happiness in the mind.”

NIKHIL MEHRA
Nikhil Mehra also would also choose February to dress up or translate into fashion. “This is the most beautiful month as it symbolises spring and also is a transition month when it is not too hot and not too cold. In fact, this month for me would be symbolised by a lovely yellow hue, which is all about spring, resurgence and happiness. I would also look at this month in terms of silhouette, jersey dresses, co-ordinated shorts with tops.

MANOVIRAJ KHOSLA
Bangalore-based designer Manoviraj Khosla prefers winter, especially the month of December in Goa, with lots of colours like bright yellow, pink and purple.”Colours bring out the best in everyone. And winter is a great time  to experiment with them,” he says.

SAVIO JON
Savio Jon would prefer the summer months of April and May, which according to him symbolise the freedom of casualness.”``I am basically resort-based as I live and work in Goa. Hence the resort style of summer works for me. I would design an outfit in a fabric like cotton voile and the colour I would choose would be white as it is the colour of summer.

GAURAV GUPTA
Gaurav Gupta would choose the winter months of November-December and use the colour aubergine. “It’s hot. A mix of aubergine and plum, in between would make for a great outfit. That’s the right colour for me as it is very close to black, very evening. It fits into the festive mentality and is not a dead colour. It’s lively, suits all types of skin tones and represents chic. Very winter, it is dark, it’s got drama in it. It is a very sexy colour.”
