Tribute to a maestro
Vijaya and Karthik School of Arts celebrated Christmas with a tribute to their Guru Veena Virtuoso Late R K Suryanarayan at Ada Ragamandira on J C Road on Tuesday. The event also provided a platform for upcoming disciples of the school.

The proramme was inaugurated at 5.30 pm with Hema Varshini N Y and Vaishnavi N Y invoking the gods. This was followed by a six member Veena ensemble by Vijaya Lakshmi Govinda Rao and her disciples, namely, Seetha Lakshmi S, Veena Suresh, Kamini Chandar, Smitha N and Ramya B. They presented Navaragamalika Varna, Endaro Mahanubhavulu and Ayigiri Nandini among other renditions.

Karthik G Rao provided a one man show by playing latest hit songs from the Kannada films like Anisuthide Yako Indu (Mungaru Male) and Ninnindale (Milana) on the keyboard. Next, Vijayalakshmi Govinda Rao, Karthik G Rao and their disciples, Rajeshwari Murthy, Vijaya Jayaram, Asha Raj, Usha Ramesh, Himabindu Sujay, Ramya Umesh and Pallavi Vinayaka enthralled the audience with a veena (six) and keyboard (three) ensemble.

The percussion support for the entire programme was provided by Vidwan S V Giridhar on the mridangam, Vidwan Dayananda Mohite on the ghatam, Vidwan Subramaniam Mohite on the khanjira, Vidwan Betta Venkatesh on the morching, and Vidwan Manjunath on the rhythm pads.
