Baby Hanuman returns for all kids, including those who have a kid hidden inside them. The Return of Hanuman is not a sequel to Hanuman. Not purely mythological unlike the previous, this one has elements of Kaliyug brilliantly woven into mythology. Right from the digitalized gadgets employed by the Gods and Goddesses in heaven, to the delighting voice over clones of Gabbar Singh, Shah Rukh Khan, Sanjeev Kumar, Raaj Kumar and Himesh Reshamayyat; the Matrix moves belted by Baby Hanuman, and the tons of gyaan on pollution, global warming and green house effect in the mythological narrative, this movie becomes a good watch. It is an innovative presentation of the modern day crises with heavy images of divine intervention set to absolve man of his karma.
From a battle between the devas and the rakshas, the story shifts to Bajrangpur, a hamlet in present-day India, where we find Minku, a small boy being bullied by his friends all the time. Notwithstanding such injustice to little Minku, Lord Hanuman is determined to swing into action, especially after 'crores of years of dealing with the same boring faces in heaven'. He sets to manipulate Narad Muni into convincing Lord Brahma to send him to earth.
After issuing numerous do's and don'ts in a contract that Hanuman is made to sign, Lord Brahma agrees. Baby Hanuman is then born into a pandit's family in Bajrangpur. Soon, everything is set right in Minku's life and Baby Hanuman becomes the cynosure of the town, given his might and power. The first half of the film is gripping and amusing.
The comical depiction of the day-to-day activities of the Gods and Goddesses sets you laughing heartily. Also, Hanuman's antics at the rakshas Gabbar Singh's territory, and Minku's awe of Hanuman, are adorable. Although the second half throws in some nail-biting moments, it fails to sustain interest and suddenly becomes a bore. Technically, the animation is impressive, going by Indian standards.
Baby Hanuman is extremely cute and lovable. You want to take him home, only until he sweetly tells you he is hungry, minutes after a gluttonous meal.
