Samarth, Sanchit hog the limelight
Riding on Samarth and Sanchit’s all-round show, Bangalore Blues scored a 78-run win over BPCA in the semifinals of the Chakrapani Cup conducted by the Bangalore Institute of Cricket on Friday.
Riding on Samarth’s 115 and Sanchit’s 43, Blues notched up 229 all out in 30 overs. Sanchit (3/30) and Samarth (2/22) returned to torment BPCA with the ball. BPCA were all out for 151 in 28 overs.
Brief scores (Semifinals):
BIC: 147 all out in 30 overs (Sanjit 27, Vijay Kumar 27; Rehman Khan 4-29, Prasanna 4-29) bt SAK, Davangere: 133/9 in 30 overs (Shreyas M 43, Prasanna 30; Sanjit 6-27).
Bangalore Blues: 229 all out in 30 overs (Samarth 115, Sanchit 43; Kayan Abbas 3-51, Chetanraj 2-47) bt BPCA: 151 all out in 28 overs (Sagar 35, K Abbas 39; Sanchit 3-30, Samarth 2-22, Sachin 2-12).
Naveen does star turn for Kedar
Naveen’s fine spell (4/8) helped Kedar Cricket Academy score a 67-run win over IACA in the Pepsi Cup under-13 cricket tournament on Friday.

Florence PS: 149/6 in 30 overs (Furkhan 36, Uttam Chand 26) bt Star Cricketers, Chennai: 92 all out in 26 overs (Uttam Chand 3-16, Furkhan 3-13, Shantanu Sharma 2-18, Nishant 2-22).
IACA: 91 all out in 29.2 overs (Chetan 27; Kanisqh 3-11) bt UAE Invitational XI, Dubai: 69 all out in 28.2 overs (Karan 33; Ashwin Bala 3-10, Shreyas 2-15, Kunal Sanghvi 2-12). Kedar CA: 151 all out in 29.2 overs (Rohan Khanna 3-22, Abhinav Venkat 2-6) bt IACA: 84 all out in 26.1 overs (Naveen 4-8, Vishwanathan 3-7).
Deepak ’tricks for Modern
Deepak’s hat-trick was the feature of Modern Boys’ 3-0 win over Bangalore Blues in the ‘C’ division football league at the 515 Army Base Workshop ground on Friday. Deepak scored in the 41st, 53rd and 60th minutes.
SVCA ride onMurgesh heroics
Riding on Murgesh’s half-century, SVCA scored an eight-wicket win over JP Nagar Sports Club ‘B’ to enter the semifinals of the Thyagrajan memorial U-14 cricket tourney on Friday.
Brief scores: JPS CA: 181/4 in 25 overs bt R Krishnappa CA: 175/8 in 25 overs.
JP Nagar SC ‘B’: 113 all out in 23 overs lt to SVCA: 114/2 in 19 overs (Murgesh 85).
State chess tournament
South Kanara District Chess Association (SKDCA) will organise the Fide-rated State chess championship from  January 5-9, 2008 at the Karnataka Bank Auditorium, Kodialbail, Mangalore. The top four players in the Rs 60,000 prize money meet will represent the State in the National ‘B’ chess championship.
