Despite protest by activists of Srirama Sene, Prem’s movie Preeti Eke Bhoomi Melide hit the cine theatres in Bangalore on Friday. Sene activists staged a protest in front of theatre Kapali in Majestic urging the theatre owners not to screen the movie. They demanded that screening of the movie should be stopped.
Tense situation prevailed for a few minutes when hundreds of workers of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike arrived at the theatre and demanded that screening of the movie should not be disturbed.
Sene leader Vasanth Kumar appealed to the theatre owner and producer of the movie to withdraw Sulle Sullu.. song from the movie. He said that the song consists words insulting Hindu gods. However theatre owner did not budge. The police intervened and took Sene activists into their custody. Later screening of the movie continued.
Mr Vasanth Kumar told reporters that in seven district centres screening of the movie has been stalled. The Sene demands that producer and director of the movie should seek apology for ‘insulting’ Hindu gods. If they do not seek apology we will go ahead with our protest.
Complaint
A private complaint has been filed in the 6th Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Bangalore on Friday seeking action against the producer and director of Kannada movie ‘Preethi Eke Bhumi Melide’.
Y C Shekhar, who filed the case, argued that a song in the movie ‘Sulle Sull...’ hurts the sentiments of Hindu community as the song argues that Rama, Sita and Harischanadra were all false. Advocate S Gajendra presented the arguments on behalf of petitioner. The judge deferred the hearing to January 2.
“We have filed the case against Prem, who is director and Krishnaprasad,” Gajendra said.
There were also protests in Gulbarga and Davangere.
