Indian economy can register growth rate of over 10 per cent, but to achieve this, banks should come forward to finance the growth, Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram said here on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion of launching new Brand Identity of Canara Bank he said “banks should be the drivers of country’s economy”
Be inclusive
He lamented that even though, post-nationalisation, the banks have done commendable service to the society, there is much more to be done by the banks. “Even today, banking is alien service to more than half the population of the country. Banks should reach the people who are in the bottom of the societal pyramid” he stressed.
Mr Chidambaram unveiled Canara Bank’s new brand identity in the presence of Karnataka Governor Rameshwar Thakur and a host of dignitaries.
Canara Bank, one of the largest Public Sector Banks, has recently concluded its centenary year of banking service. In an attempt to have a new brand identity, it has absorbed new logo and christened new customer-friendly tagline — “Together We Can.” Explaining the rationale and necessity of the new brand identity, Chairman & Managing Director M B N Rao pointed out that in the fiercly competitive financial services industry, it is increasingly becoming imperative, if not mandatory, to rebuild the bank’s brand in order to attract and retain customers.
“We have also to take into account post-2009 scenario when foreign banks will have access to more organic and inorganic growth” he added.
Touching upon selection of the colour palette and logo, he said “the rich blue connotes stability, scale and depth. In contrast, the bright yellow depicts optimism, warmth and energy. The distinctive brand identity is based on the idea of a bond and togetherness and is a representation of close ties between the bank and its many stake holders.”
The bank also launched host of on-line services. It also felicitated special customers like oldest and youngest customers of the bank and those customers having long and special association with the bank.
