Office bearers of the Karnataka Kolegeri Nivasigala Samyukta Sangha (KKNSS) staged a protest in front of the Mahatma Gandhi statue in Bangalore on Saturday, demanding that Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) officials include 52 families of Tippunagar and Arundatinagar slums of Chandra Layout in the land allotment list.
Bangalore District KKNSS convener James Jayaraj alleged that the BDA officials included the names of 52 families - which were not eligible - in the list of beneficiaries, owing to pressure from political persons and land mafia gangs.
The State government had directed the BDA to provide land for the rehabilitation of 513 families that were evicted after a major fire tragedy in Chandra Layout slums. The officials accommodated 52 families near Tippunagar and Arundathinagar and replaced their names with others, owing to pressure from vested interests, he alleged.
The protesters demanded that the BDA issue land allotment letters to the beneficiaries and provide basic amenities in slums.
They submitted a memorandum to the governor Rameshwar Thakur.
Around 180 persons participated in the protest.
