After a long gap, Dr Gubbi Veeranna Kala Kshethra in the City was packed with audience beyond its capacity.
Both the dramas were staged for a lengthy period of seven hours and the audience did not even stir in their places. This is enough to prove that there are still takers for mythological plays.
“The present generation does not like mythological plays. Gone are the days of staging mythological plays.” - These and more such statements were proven false by the audience who saw both the dramas and more than half of the audience was marked with youths. The most commonly staged plays are “Kurukshethra” or the “Ramayana” at the Ranga Mandiras in Tumkur.
For a change
However this time, as a mark of change, the Shivashakti drama troupe of Turuvekere decided to stage two different dramas based on mythology. Initially, the troupe was not expecting such a good response for the two dramas.
Manager of the troupe Manjunath was apprehensive about the public response. However, happy with the overwhelming response from the public, he said, he was thankful to the public who took so much interest. He has expressed his gratitude to the public.
In fact, Mr Manjunath has conceived the drama - “Bhakta Prahalada,” directed it and has also played the main role in it. The drama - “Bhoo Kailasa” directed by Yoganarasimha, has also enthralled the audience.
The credit of staging mythological dramas successfully and bringing back the theatre-lovers to the Ranga Mandiras, however, goes to Shivashakti drama troupe and also to the theatre-lovers, who have made the dramas so successful, by giving an overwhelming response to them.
