Raja Ravi Varma museum opens at Hasta Shilpa

Hasta Shilpa launched its new project of Raja Ravi Varma Archival Museum at its Heritage village here on Sunday.

The grandson of the legendary artist Raja Ravi Varma, Dr Rama Varma Sripathi Prasad inaugurated this unique art museum. The archival museum consists of original prints of the Ravi Varma’s paintings including machineries used for printing processes, litho stones with impressions of the works of Ravi Varma, packets of special colour ink powder made in Germany for colour reproduction of Ravi Varma’s works, scores of original colour prints of Ravi Varma’s paintings of various sizes, sketches and drawings, printing accessories, work sheets, account books and other documents used in the Ravi Varma’s press.

The Trust has initiated this step of setting up of this museum to pay its tribute to the most celebrated artist of the country.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Prasad said that even though Raja Ravi Varma was a controversial artist with his controversial concepts, it was he who introduced the medium to project what our people wish to listen and understand and above all the hard work and determination involved in the works of the great artist cannot be undermined and his contributions stands above everything else, he added.

He gave a brief introduction regarding the working process of the artist. Raja Ravi Varma was meticulously cautious about the planning and its execution.

Hasta Shilpa Founder Secretary Vijayanath Shenoy and Ms Vilasini Prasad were present on the ocassion.
