Special Economic Zone (SEZ) Impact Assessment Committee and Parisarasakta Okkuta organised a street meet to spread awareness on the adverse effects of SEZ on the environment near Mahatma Gandhi’s statue at Lalbaugh on Friday.
The meet was inaugurated by Bunts Sangha President Ajith Rai Malady who said that it is the duty of every citizen of the region to safeguard the ecological balance in the region and hence the ecological hazardous projects such as SEZ and others must be opposed unanimously.
Social worker Celine Aranha said that big industries that established themselves came with big promises of development. “Where is the development and if there there has been any development who have been developed?” she questioned and said that the promises made by the industries some years ago have remained only as promises and history is repeating itself as even today big industries are making promises and deceiving the farmers. She called upon the people to oppose SEZ and PCPIR projects as it poses a threat of increased foreign interference as most of the companies coming under SEZ are foreign companies.
Prasad Guruji from Rishi Samskrithi Kendra, Okkuta office-bearers such as Kateel Dinesh Pai, Sylvester D’Souza and others were present.
