K N Tailor presented Taulava award
DH News Service, Mangalore:

Renowned theatre personality K N Tailor received the ‘Taulava’ award instituted by the Tulu Nataka Kalavidara Okkuta for his valuable contribution to the field of Tulu theatre on Sunday at Town Hall.

Accepting the award, Mr Tailor said that the institutions which decide to give away awards to contributors in any field must take into consideration various aspects to ascertain whether the person is worth the award or not.
He said that in schools only those students who pass all subjects are promoted likewise in theatre and art only those artists who have substantially contributed for the development of art must be conferred with awards.
He lamented that today people who are not worth any awards are being given awards brushing aside many others who have sincerely toiled to develop theatre.

Responding on Okkuta President Macchendranath Pandeshwara’s comment that media does not give sufficient coverage to Tulu theatre, Mr Tailor suggested to go and approach the newspapers or media houses directly rather than urging them from various forums.

Earlier inaugurating the programme, Fr Mullers Hospital Administrator Fr Denis D’Sa said that artistes are the true assets of the society.

Citing an anecdote of Ruskin Bond, Fr D’Sa said that in ancient times the street lamps were lit manually but after the lights are lit the man who lit it is often forgotten while his work is seen.

“In the same way the artists who have lit the lamp of theatre and drama may not be present today but the light that they have lit is still burning,” he added.

‘Nempu,’ a commemoration programme was held where some of the great artists were remembered for their valuable service to art. Theatre personality D J Ravindra, writer U R Chander, theatre actor D R K Mulky, D Vaman J Kotian, Singer D Sharath Kumar Kadri were offered floral tribute by their family members along with the dignitaries.

Monitory help was provided to artists Ramesh Kodical during the programme.

Aloysius College Head of Department of Kannada Dr Na Damodar Shetty presided over the programme.
