Bank says it’s flooded with counterfeit notes
The Jayanagar branch of Citibank has registered a complaint with the Basavanagudi police saying it has received thousands of counterfeit currency notes in denominations of Rs 1,000, Rs 500 and Rs 100 between August 22, 2006 and September 26, 2007.
“Various account-holders – individuals and companies - have deposited money and during these transactions, counterfeit currency notes have been passed on to our branch,” the bank has said in its complaint.
In this connection, 70 individuals have been identified. We are trying to obtain the court’s permission to take them into custody and interrogate, said the Basavanagudi police.

Women’s meet from January 4
All India Mahila Samskrutika Sanghatane has organised its IV State-level Women’s conference from January 4 to 6 at Maharaja College Centenary Hall, in Mysore to strengthen its organisation in Karnataka.
A reception committee chaired by Science writer Prof J R Lakshman Rao and comprising about 60 other intellectuals is formed for this conference. As many as 6,000 delegates are expected to participate. Retrial of dalit case demanded
Dalit Panthers of India (DPI) State President Dalit Nagaraj on Sunday sought retrial of the case involving the acquittal of 46 persons, who were accused of burning seven dalits alive in Kambalapalli village of Kolar district on March 11, 2000. He was addressing a gathering at Hombegowda school ground at ‘Kannada Mannina Sammelana’.A memorandum will be submitted to Governor Rameshwar Thakur.
