One killed as cab plunges into pit
DH News Service, Bagepalli:
Grave negligence in checking unlicenced, overcrowded and speedy maxicabs has led to several accidents in Bagepalli, provoking the outcry of public.

In one such accident on Sunday, a maxicab fell off leading to death of a person and injuring four others at Chinakayalapalli near Gulur in Bagepalli.

On Sunday, as the driver was absent, the cleaner was driving the maxicab from Billur. While trying to overtake another vehicle, he lost control and the cab plunged into a nearby pit. One of the passengers Adireddy (50) died on the spot while four others were critically injured.

The same maxicab had met with accident in the last week also, fortunately no casualty had occurred. However, the police managed to brush it under the carpet and did not register any complaint.

Workers and students from Billur, Golur and many other villagers are dependant on this cab to commute to their working places everyday, due to lack of proper public transport facilities.

The private vehicle owners try to cash in on the absence of the buses and try to accommodate more number of passengers than it could really hold and take to rash driving.

Several articles on ‘these killers on wheels’ have been published several times in these columns of the paper earlier. However, newspaper reports, public protest have failed to move the apathetic police department.
