LOCAL BODIES SHIRK DUTY
Phoolsha Mohalla turns out to be a hell
H H Dayanand, DH News Service, Kolar:
What happens when local bodies shirk duties? Here is an example of the catastrophic effect of it.

No doubt, it is the bounden duty of the local bodies to provide basic amenities be it - maintaining cleanliness, providing drinking water, drainage system.  Instead of making life comfortable for the citizens in the district, these bodies have made their life miserable!

Phoolsha Mohalla, one of the major extensions in the city has turned out to be a hell for the residents, not to speak other extensions too. No proper roads, drainage systems, irregular supply of drinking water, no streetlights, wastes strewn everywhere, meat shops - represent Phoolsha Mohalla! Yes, the residents of the Mohalla have been suffering a lot due to innumerable problems they have been facing everyday.

Salty water
Drinking water is supplied to the Mohalla once in a week. The water thus supplied tastes salty, but there is no other way than to use this salty water, say the residents here.

The only way out is that they have to buy water from the private water providing tankers for Rs 2 per pot, which many poor residents cannot afford to. There are many taps and borewells also have water, in the extension, but due to some sort of ‘adjustments’ done by the watermen with the private water supply tankers, the problem has increased.

The senior officers who are responsible to solve this crisis have turned a deaf ear, which in turn has been supporting the rampant irregularities.

Improper maintenance of drainage system is another problem here. Though a pipeline has been installed to support underground drainage flow, drain water flows on road!

The representatives of the City Municipal Council themselves have complained regarding the problem and have urged to take up the works properly.

This Mohalla also has meat shops, which are bedraggled, which is the responsibility of the City Municipal Council to take it a serious concern.

They fail to maintain cleanliness and meats are sold in these dirty locations itself.  The health inspector who is responsible to tackle this problem has failed totally.

The public has been annoyed over the attitude of local bodies in turning a deaf ear to their problems and have demanded to solve their problem at the earliest.
