The farmers should avail of the benefits of organic farming which helps them in retaining the fertility of the land and also to reap rich yield, said Assistant Agriculture Director Chandrakala.
She was speaking after inaugurating ‘Ragi Kshetrotsava’ and an expo organised by the Agriculture Department and Mother organisation in Jogayyanapalya in Sira.
The farmers can grow ragi in those areas which have received less rain this year, she said advising the farmers to follow the suggestions of the agriculture department in improving their economic conditions.
Gram Panchayat President Shivanna, speaking on the occasion, said, the farmers are despair about the agriculture and many of them are opting out agriculture for their livelihood.
The modern cultivation methods would help the farmers in reaping profits in this sector also, he added.
Agriculture officer Gangadhar, Dr K V Prakash and Manjunath Reddy of the Regional Research Centre informed the farmers about organic farming and answered to the latter’s queries on the subject.
Director of Mother Bhagya Bhaskar, Radhamani, progressive farmer Nagaraju were present.
