TUMKUR BRIEFS

Rapist jailed for 5 yearsTumkur, DHNS:  A man who raped a minor girl and attacked her mother has been sentenced to five years jail.
 The accused is Basavaraju of Mallasandra village. The case was registered in Tumkur rural police station on March 26, 2006. Justice Kempegoudar of the third fast track court sentenced him to 5 years  jail  and Rs 10,000 fine.

Devdasis to visit DC office
Tumkur, dhns: Demanding various facilities including rehabilitation and alternative employment, Devadasi women of Pavagada will visit the Dy Commsssioner’s office on Monday.

The DC office Chalo’ programme will start at 8 am at Pavagada Guest Gouse.

Eye check-up and treatment
Tumkur, dhns: Lions Club Central and District Health and Family Welfare had jointly organised an eye check-up camp in Kora.

Many people took the benefit of the three-day camp. About  22 eye surgeries were conducted in Tumkur Government hospital, said Lions President N N Sridhar. The camp was held in memory of eye-donors late N S Narayana Shetty and his wife late N S lalitamba.

Sanskrit Festival on Dec 4
Tumkur, dhns: Tumkur district Sanskrit school teachers association is conducting Sanskrit Utsav on Tuesday. Former legislator S R Srinivas will inaugurate the function and and Veena R naik will preside over.

Eye screening held
Tumkur, DHNS: An eye check-up camp was held in  Mallasandra government hospital in which 190 patients were screened. Of them 35 patients were treated at Bangalore Netradhama Hospital.

150 th birth anniversary
Bangalore, DHNS: To commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of philanthropist K P Puttanna Chetty, the K P Puttanna Chetty Hostel’s Old Students Association will organise special programmes on December 8 at Town Hall.
A souvenir on Puttanna Chetty will also be released. Call: 9945722228.

 Transport Adalat
Bangalore,DHNS: The Transport Department will hold Transport adalat on December 5, at the
Regional Transport Office in Indiranagar at 3 pm.
