Delhi Jets did not feel the absence of skipper Marvan Atapattu as former Pakistani opener Taufeeq Umar slammed a sparkling half-century to lead the side to a five-wicket win against Hyderabad Heroes in the Indian Cricket League (ICL) Twenty20 match here on Sunday.
Umar (52), who opened the innings, was involved in 78-run stand with S Abbas Ali, who struck a quickfire 43 off 31 balls to take the match away from the opponents.
Atapattu did not play the match due to stomach ailments and JP Yadav captained Jets in his absence.
After restricting Heroes to 141, Jets were in absolute command right from the start of their chase and they went on to achieve the target in 17.4 overs.
Umar’s knock of 52 came off 41 balls and was studded with six boundaries and a six.
Brief scores: Hyderabad Heroes: 141/5 in 20 overs (N Boje 45, Inzamam-ul-Haq 34, Abdul Razzaq 29 n.o.; TP Sudhindra 2-25, A Murtaza 2-24) lt to Delhi Jets: 143/5 in 17.4 overs (Taufeeq Umar 52 n.o., S Abbas Ali 43; Abdul Razzaq 2-31).
Tigers down Lions
Chasing a modest target of 125, Chandigarh Lions surrendered meekly handing a 43-run win victory to Kolkata Tigers in the fifth match.
The Lions collapsed like a pack of cards and were bundled out for 81 in 17.3 overs.
Englishman Darren Maddy wrecked the Lions’ innings by claiming four scalps and was declared Man of the Match.
Electing to bat first, the Tigers were bowled out for 124 in 19.3 overs. Openers Maddy (19) and Lance Klusener (12) did not make much of an impact.
Brief scores:
Kolkata Tigers: 124 all out in 19.3 overs bt Chandigarh Lions: 81 all out in 17.3 overs (D Maddy 4-6).
