He was addressing a massive turnout as part of Janagrathi yatra in Kunigal town and said this is the first time in the country that a deputy chief minister without any economic background had presented two budgets.
He said that when he came forward to distribute loans at just 4 per cent interest and waived loans up to Rs 25,000 besides banning lottery and arrack, the son of the soil and former prime minister H D Deve Gowda had opposed them. But in the interest of the people of the State had gone ahead and implemented them, he added.
He had served as a deputy chief minister and chief minister and always believed that the farmer who gives food as God. He had also taken oath in the name of the farmer which had been recorded.
Deve Gowda who was always accusing BJP as communal, should remember that when he was the PWD minister in Ramakrishna Hegde’s government, even then BJP had supported them. Similarly when his son Kumaraswamy was the chief minister it was again due to the support of the BJP that he became the CM. How then could he accuse his party as communal, asked Mr Yeddyurappa.
Mining interests
Only if he had agreed to give the mines, PWD and home departments to the JD (S) today he could still have continued as the CM. But as he was not after power, he took a firm stand not to bow to their dictates and hence had to lose power, he said.
If the family had any interest in the farmers, they would have demanded agriculture, rural development and social welfare departments. But the only interest they had was in making money and hence stuck to their stand and were responsible for the fall of the government, said Mr Yeddyurappa.
Next taken on the Congress, he said the party which ruled the country for nearly 50 years hardly did anything as their leaders were only interested in feathering their nest than on development works.
Becoming highly emotional and in a charged voice he asked for what fault was he punished and in the same tone said that the people would give a fitting reply in the coming elections by giving a clear mandate to BJP.
He also declared that he would write in blood to make this State a model one in the country.
Leader B Suresh Gowda said, the father son JD (S) party had brought shame on the whole Vokkaliga community by their behaviour. Kumaraswamy who had visited Kunigal constituency thrice had not announced even a single programme for the people and instead was trying to fool the innocent public by making false promises, he added.
Former minister Ramachandregowda said of if the State had seen the first chief minister who had breached the promise then it is Kumaraswamy.
Power hungry
Having ruled the State just for 20 months, Kumaraswamy had become so arrogant and power hungry that he did not even spare a saint like Siddaganga seer and made irresponsible statements against the centenarian. Hence, he should immediately tender an apology, said Ramachandregowda. Film actor and MLC Srinath, former legislators C T Ravi and Araga Jnanendra also addressed the gathering.
The Janajagriti Yatra led by Yeddyurappa was warmly welcomed by the Amruthur people as it entered Kunigal taluk. After performing pooja at the temple, he addressed the gathering. Later, he went to Huliyadurga and was taken in a procession there. He addressed the public at the primary school grounds in Hospete.
Service of the poor
Earlier, arriving at Turuvekere from Hassan along with other BJP leaders as part of the Janajagrathi Yatra, Mr Yeddyurappa said, “I had dreamt of serving the poor of the State. Since the JD(S) ditched me, my dreams could not be fulfiled. However, I am not shattered. Neither am I a pessimist. I will tour the entire State, tell the people the tale of betrayal by the JD(S) and seek justice. ” He often got emotional while addressing the gathering and said, he is confident of gaining the trust of the people in the forthcoming elections.
Criticising the way former Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy held the Janata Darshan meetings during his tenure, Mr Yeddyurappa said, “Was it fair on his part to ask poor people to come all the way to Bangalore for meeting him? Having incurred so much of expenses on travelling, the people also had to wait for him in queue for hours, without even having water and food.”
“That’s why on my very first day in office as CM I told the officials that instead of calling people to Bangalore and causing hardships to them, we will go them. We will address their issues in their own places,” he said, adding that if he came to power he will fulfil his dream of reaching out to the poor.
