Students upCET, slam test
Bangalore, DHNS:
Students appearing for CET-2008 are a confused lot. They are upset that the CET will be held on a single day this year.

Those who are planning to join medical course are even more worried as the their admission to medical colleges depend completely on their CET rankings. For engineering courses, the aggregate of PU exams and CET are considered.

When Deccan Herald spoke to a section of students, this is what they had to say.

Nupoor Sharma, National College, Basavanagudi: I am appearing for both engineering and medical exams. So, I have to take four tests on a single day. It is going to be confusing for me. It would have been better if CET was conducted on two days.

Qurath-ul-ain,  National College, Basavanagudi: It will be real testing time for students who are keeping their options open - for medical and engineering. The priority now is to prepare for II PUC exams. The government should keep the interest of the students while taking decisions.

Suraj Joesph, St Germain PU College: There should be a minimum gap of one month between PUC exam and CET. I will not be able to concentrate on any subject. Writing all the papers on a single day will put too much pressure on me.

Aby Rajan, CMR College: I have no problem in answering all three papers - chemistry, maths and physics - on a single day because I will be writing the PU exams in March itself. At least 75 per cent of preparation for the CET will be over when I prepare for the PU exams.

Sharan Moses, Christ College: I want to prepare for various competitive exams. But, all the exams are scheduled closer. Writing all the papers in one day is a tough challenge. I don’t think the government will look into students’ problems at this juncture. So, I have no option but to get ready for the tests.

Mohammed Ismail Khan, National College, Basavanagudi: Students should have been allowed to appear for CET over two days. We need to revise whatever we study before the exams. This is not possible on a single day. The purpose of single day CET may be to help reduce stress, but, infact, it’s adding more stress. I will write to the Karnataka Examination Authority requesting it to reconsider the decision.

S D Avinash, II PU, Sri Bhagwan Mahaveer Jain College:  The IIT entrance exam is going to be held on April 13 and AIEEE exam is to be held on April 27.

In between CET is conducted. After the completion of PU exam, I will have to start preparing for IIT and then prepare for CET.
