'Sports policy by Jan end'

A new sports policy will be announced by the end of January to give more facilities and to encourage the sports personnel, said Youth Services and Sports department Secretary A Srikanth.

Addressing a face to face programme, he said new Sports Act will be passed after a new government is formed in the State.

A sum of Rs 100 crore has been sanctioned to provide basic facilities in the taluk and district stadiums. Rs 25 crore has already been released.

Apart from this Rs 78 crore has been earmarked for the purpose in the State budget. With this fund, the district stadiums will be upgraded. Of 176 taluk stadiums, 63 stadiums have been repaired.

Air fare allowance
Mr Srikanth said sports personnel from the State  will be given air fare allowance to take part in the international meet.

 Those sports personnel whose annual income is less than Rs 75,000 are eligible for the allowance. Apart from this, the sports personnel who take part in the national level sports meet, second class train AC fare will be provided.

Mr Srikanth said state-level Olympics is proposed to be held at Raichur or Gulbarga. A team has already visited Raichur to inspect the place. Government has earmarked Rs 1.67 crore for the purpose.

The department will recruit 362 trainers soon. In the first stage, 185 trainers will be recruited.
