Designed and developed by Bajaj Auto’s R&D, this vehicle is fitted with the Petrol Direct injection engine to achieve substantially lower emissions.
This new technology will inject fuel in the engine with high pressure forming a fine mist. The intake is controlled precisely with an Electronic Control Unit (ECU) that avoids escape of unburnt fuel into the exhaust and drastically reduces emissions. The company claims that in terms of fuel efficiency, the RE GDi delivers a substantial 33 per cent improvement over the conventional petrol autos.
The new engine also has an electric oil pump, which is again controlled by the ECU, to deliver savings on oil consumption as well. R C Maheshwari, Chief Executive Officer for commercial vehicle business of Bajaj said that the GDI vehicle will be launched in a phased manner throughout the countr. “After Pune, Bajaj plans to launch the vehicle in Trivandrum and Mangalore,” Mr Maheswari added.
