FIRST DAY's HIGHLIGHTS
K R Gururaja Rao

*Yasir Arafat, the right-arm medium fast bowler, at the age of 25 years (born on 12-Mar-1982 at Rawalpindi) became the 189th player to represent Pakistan in Test cricket. He is also the third Pakistan player to make his debut at Bangalore. The other two are Ehteshamuddin on 21-Nov-1979 and Azeem Hafeez on 14-Sep-1983 who were both medium fast bowlers.

*India's total of 365-5  is the highest on the first day of a Test match at Bangalore. The previous highest was 339-3 by India against Sri Lanka on Jan 26, 1994. India had won that match by innings and 95 runs.

*The above total is also the highest on the first day of a Test match played in India surpassing the previous highest of 362-7 by Australia at Nagpur on Oct 26, 2004. The 372-7 scored on day one against SA at Bloemfontein on Nov 3, 2001 remains the highest for India.

*Playing his first Test match of 2007, Yuvraj Singh notched up his third Test hundred, incidentally all against Pakistan. His other two centuries being 112 at Lahore in April 2004 and 122 at Karachi in January 2006.

*When Yuvraj was dismissed for 169 runs, he had just fallen short by one run to complete 1000 runs in Tests.  He has now scored 999 runs in 20 Tests at an average of 38.42.

*Yuvraj and Sourav Ganguly became the third and fourth Indian batsman to score a Test hundred at Bangalore against Pakistan after Sunil Gavaskar (103* in Sept 1983) and Virender Sehwag (201 in Mar-2005).

*Playing in his 99th Test, Ganguly scored his 15th Test century and his second against Pakistan.  The first one had come at his home ground, Kolkata, in the second Test.

*With 818 runs, Ganguly has become India's leading run scorer in the calendar year 2007 surpassing Wasim Jaffer's 801 runs. Jack Kallis (1125) is the only batsman so far to have scored over 1000 runs in this year.

*The 300-run partnership between Yuvraj and Ganguly is the best for fifth wicket in India-Pakistan Test series.  It erased 213 runs partnership between Zaheer Abbas and Mudassar Nazar at Karachi in Dec 1982 and Indian record of 200 runs between Sandeep Patel and Ravi Shastri at Faisalabad in Oct 1984.

*The 300-run partnership is also the second highest at Bangalore. The 324 runs between Younis Khan and Inzamam-ul-Haq in March 2005 is the highest at this Ground.

*It is only the ninth occasion that an Indian pair has put on a partnership of over 300 runs in Test cricket.
