It was an altogether a different world, a world of countryside, a world of folk artistes and a world of folk culture and traditions, inside Lalbag premises on Sunday evening.

Folk artistes who performed during the 53rd Janapada Jathre (Folk Festival), organised by Department of Kannada and Culture, created this world of folk art forms.

The event, which exhibited the folk culture of different parts of the State, won laurels among the audience. The event was a huge hit as the premises was jampacked till the programme got over.

‘Simha Nrutya’ of South Canara was the first event to follow. Artistes in  guise of lions staged a brilliant performance. But, the chief attraction was ‘Tamate Vaadya’ performed by Muni Venkatappa of Kolar.

Within seconds after he began performing, hundreds of audience stood up and began dancing to the tune. When Venkatappa finished his performance, several audience demanded him to repeat ‘Tamate Vaadya’. The organisers were forced to request Venkatappa to repeat his performance.

Encouraged by the enthusiasm of the audience, Karnataka Nataka Academy chairperson Srinivasa G Kappanna also performed Tamate Vaadya.  Audience returned homes tasting the essence of folk traditions.
