Heavy rain lashes City

With heavy rains lashing the city on
Sunday night, residents of Hanumanthanagar, Kempegowda Nagar, Srinagar, Hosakerehalli, Girinagar, Jayanagar, Banashankari, Basavanagudi, Rajajinagar, Gayatrinagar, Malleswaram, Majestic, Mysore Road and other areas of the city had a very tough time.

A few parts of Bangalore around HAL airport received light rainfall on Sunday.
In Kempegowda Nagar, rain water entered at least 30 houses forcing the inmates to come out. Lalbagh and Siddaiah Road were inundated in rain water. The BBMP had taken up desilting of drains recently. According to Meteorological Department as much as 0.8 mm of rainfall was recorded in HAL airport.
Light rainfall is expected in some parts of city on Monday too, the department report stated.

Power shutdown today

There will be no power supply on February 11 and 12 at the following areas from 11 am to 5 pm at Hennur, Chel  kere, Veganapalya, Vadarapalya and Kannur due to technical maintenance work by Bescom.
Felicitation programme held

The Amrithangamaya Trust honoured

individuals and organisations working with HIV and AIDS patients at an event on Sunday.
The felicitation programme was inaugurated by Charukirthi Pattaraka Vedike Chairman Dr Nagendra Prasad and actor Vijay.

Fr Joseph from Support Hospital, Amuda of Action Aid, Dr Satish a private practitioner, Karnataka Jain Association Chairman Jitendra Kumar Jain, Samraksha Samsthe, Professor HLN Rao from Aryabhatta Samskruthika Samsthe were also felicitated.

Actors Umashri and Vijay were also honoured for their support for the cause.

NSS officer appointed

Dr Akkamahadevi G Nadagoud, lecturer, Jagadguru Moorusaviramath, Vidyavardhaka Sangha Arts & Commerce College, Hubli has been appointed the State Liaison Officer at State-level NSS Cell.
The Cell will function under the Department of Youth Services, Bangalore.

Young scientist award

The Karnataka Rajya Vijnana Parishat is awarding the `Young Scientist-2008’ award for students between 10 and 18 years. The candidates should be achievers in events of scientific significance, done well in NTSE exams and science subjects during the years 2005-2006, 2006-2007 and 2007-2008. The nominees for the award should be of the age group 15-18 and should not have attained 18 years as on 10.4.2008.
The cash awards for the top three state level prizes range from Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000 while those at the district level range from Rs 1,000 to Rs 3,000.

KRV to picket rly minister

Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (Narayana Gowda faction) activists have threatened to picket Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav at Yeshwanthpur Railway Station in Bangalore on Monday. Lalu is scheduled to flag-off Ajmer-Yeshwanthpur bi-weekly Express train (extension up to Mysore) at 8:45 am. He will also inaugurate model station in the same premises. “KRV activists will also picket him in Tumkur and Chitradurga where he is expected to participate in a Yadava convention,” Gowda said.

Sub-standard drugs

The following drugs have been listed as `Not of Standard quality’ by the Government Analyst, Drug Control Laboratory, Bandra, Mumbai: Absolut Syrup (ABS-705 F), manufactured by Pharmed Medicare Pvt Ltd, Hoskote and Otina Ear Drops (B498) and (B477) manufactured by Glaxo Smithkline Pharmaceuticals Limited, Bangalore.
Chemists, wholesalers, doctors, hospitals and nursing homes who stock these drugs have been cautioned not to use them and inform the concerned area Drugs inspector or Assistant Drugs Controller.
